Making every drop count (2004)

A new Tearfund report was launched at the UN Commission on Sustainable Development 12th session in New York in April 2004. The report seeks to establish markers to determine whether donors are taking their fair share of the burden to meet the water and sanitation target which is part of MDG 7 - to ensure environmental sustainability.
Tearfund has collaborated with the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council in country-level research on financing water, sanitation and hygiene. From these country level studies a number of key messages emerge on the quantity and quality of financing nneded if the Millenium Development targets on water and sanitation are to be met. This study looks at the situation in Sierra Leone, and views the financial and governance obstacles to Sierra Leone meeting the Millennium Development target on water and sanitation, as well as highlighting ways in which sector finance is being and can be made more effective.
