Nigel and Trish Branken moved to the troubled inner-city suburb of Hillbrow in Johannesburg, South Africa, to model a new way of life. Rather than start a project, they are living out the changes they want to see – challenging social divides, serving others and pursuing justice. Nigel is a qualified social worker and Trish home-schools their six children.

As they stand in solidarity with those facing extreme poverty, Nigel says, ‘What we focus on is primarily becoming friends with our neighbours and then trying to become good neighbours to our friends.’ They want to see a South Africa where divides are broken down and where people thrive no matter what their background.

Nigel and Trish are part of Tearfund’s Inspired Individuals programme. For more details, click here.
