What are Compassion and Justice Gatherings?

Compassion and justice gatherings aim to inspire and equip people of all backgrounds and nationalities for compassion ministry. We long to see the church and individual Christians and organisations helping whole communities to realise their God-given potential.

You can find out more about the previous Mumbai, Durban and Uganda compassion and justice gatherings by visiting the video resource page on TILZ.

Vision for Egypt Gathering

We want to inspire and equip the church to actively respond to its calling to address poverty and injustice, in a way that meets the holistic needs of individuals and communities. We seek to create a space where delegates can share learning and best-practice examples of compassion ministry. We also want to facilitate the creation of connections that enable delegates to offer ongoing support to each other after the gathering has ended.

We hope that delegates will leave the gathering inspired and supported to be salt and light in their communities.

Who is the gathering for?

Whether you are involved in church ministry, working for an NGO or just passionate about making a difference in your community, this gathering is for you.

The gathering is open to delegates of all nationalities and backgrounds. However, the programme will be in Arabic (with English translation available) and be focused on issues relevant to the North Africa and Middle East region.

In this gathering we will be exploring what it means for the church to seek the Kingdom of God, focusing on the flourishing life and salam that we are promised in Christ. We will look at the role of the church in modeling and growing the kingdom, the life of discipleship that contributes to this, how we can share this vision with churches, and what salam looks like in our communities.

What will the programme look like?

At the heart of the gathering will be prayer and worship. We will also have daily devotions - we want to ensure the gathering is rooted in the word of God.

We will be hearing from church leaders and Christian development practitioners from within the region. But this gathering isn’t just about listening to others. It is going to be an interactive event, where you can ask questions, share your own thoughts and experiences, and develop new ways of working. Through discussion groups, workshops and reflection, you will have the opportunity to learn from other delegates.

Participants will also have the opportunity to visit and engage with the work being done by one of the Church or Christian NGO ministries in Egypt’s. This will enable participants to observe proven models for action, and take away some core principles, ideas and lessons that they can apply in their own contexts.

What is being covered?

We will be focusing on topics such as:

  • How do holistic ministries help people and communities to flourish?
  • The role of the church in addressing gender inequality
  • Forgiveness and reconciliation
  • Diversity and social inclusion
  • The refugee crisis
  • The role of young people in development
